Ice statues in Ice Land
As Saburrtooth carving discs and burrs may also be used for ice sculpturing / shaping, I did some search through Slovene pages and I found Ledene skulpture (ice sculptures) by Miro Rismondo, who is also a driving force behind Ledena dežela (Ice Land). Upon seeing these ice sculptures, you can certainly not remain indifferent! As Miro writes on his page, they are the only Slovene company to profesionally produce ice sculptures on demand.
All ice sculptures are made by hand and are thus unique and ideal for special occasions: "Ice sculptures are one of the most extravagant and unique crafts. Uncompromised beauty, literally sculptured out of water for just one opportunity, one event, one day, you will never forget."
You can visit Ledena dežela in Ljubljana untill 5th of March to see the project which is being worked on throughout the year as they are producing crystal clear ice blocks with a special process and they even have to import them from Poland because they are not able to produce enough. "This years exhebition will lead you to the mystical times of the Slavs. You will see gods and stories of our ancestors shaped out of crystal clear ice. What they all have in common is connection to nature and related traditions which helped our ancestors understand the world they lived in.
The main character of the exhibition is Perun, the greatest among the great, god of lightning and thunder, acompanied by Živa - goddes of life, Veles - god of underground,..."
To bring this ice fairytale to life, Slovene, two Catalonian, a Finnish sculptor and one Russian artist have worked one month at – 5 ⁰C. For shaping the ice they used chainsaws, angle grinders with carving discs, grinders with burrs, chisels, irons (normally used for ironing clothes ;)) and hairdryers.
